A Battle to the End

battle till the endHaving only a couple of training sessions under their belts, our boys took to the Horton High School field this week to play against a strong home team. The first 15 minutes or so saw Horton comfortably on top with a number of clear-cut chances but, with some last ditch defending and excellent goalkeeping, Ken Lee kept Horton out. Unfortunately, it didn’t take long for the home side to open the scoring following an attack down our right side.

As the first half continued, our midfield grew more and more into the game once a tactical switch saw new acquisition, Christopher Nitsch, move further forward from his initial starting role as centre-back. Unfortunately, for the remainder of the first half, we didn’t create too much in the final third and Nicolas Balmori, Mario Meira-Lavoie, and Hokyun Son were left wanting for chances at goal.

A tactical change in the second half saw KES switch to 3 at the back and from the whistle they looked more secure, more assured in midfield, and a lot more dangerous going forward. Emiliano Bonilla playing in midfield led the charge, winning almost every tackle he was involved in. Dangerous play on the left between Nicolas and Tyler de Graaf led to a couple of set pieces. Excellent deliveries from Bonilla on successive corners eventually led to an equaliser. Captain, and eventual Man of the Match, Evan Logan jumped highest to nod in.

It was no more than the boys deserved and even though they kept fighting with Horton in the final 15 minutes, it was to no avail and the teams shared the spoils.

Next up is our KES Invitational Tournament on Friday the 20th and Saturday the 21st. We play against Yarmouth at 4:00pm and Colonel Grey (PEI) at 7:00pm on Friday, and on Saturday at 9:00am sees our boys take on Sir John A Macdonald. All games will take place on Jakeman Turf.
