Annual Art Exhibition Sneak Peak

large_news1316438_1335524Please join us for our Annual IB Art Exhibition Opening Night Reception on Thursday, April 2, 2020. Each week until our big day, I will feature select IB Art students and their work so you can enjoy a sneak peak of their favourite pieces.

Deanna Fraser is from Falmouth, NS and has attended KES for 6 years (a lifer!).
I have chosen my painting of the Ballerina as my favourite for a number of reasons. I am a dancer and I was attracted to the movement of the dance. I was influenced by the Impressionist artist, Degas with his use of colour and brushstrokes. This was my first time using large_news1316438_1335525a palette knife and starting with an under painting of acrylic with oils on top.
Future plans: I am going to Cornell University taking Urban and Regional Studies in the Architecture, Art and Planning Department.

Teagan Meyer has been at KES for four years and is from Fredericton, New Brunswick.
I have chosen this painting because it was a lot of fun experimenting with different techniques, such as squeegee and splattering. I am interested in automotive and transportation so that led to a motorcycle as the subject. This is the image of a 1931 Indian Motorcycle. I zoom_news1316438_1335528enjoyed working with this large size, it is a little more challenging. I am very pleased with the results.
Future plans: Still deciding.

Mya Snarr has been a boarding student at KES for six years (a lifer!) and is from Upper Tantallon.
I chose to share my sailboat painting because it was the start of my IB work. This is when I became interested in texture and started using a palette knife. I like representing the environment around me such as sailboats, the ocean, etc. This start gave me my theme and my direction for my work.
Future plans: I am going to study Neuroscience at either Bishops or Dalhousie University.

Ka Wai ‘Crystal’ Ng has attended KES for two years and is from Hong Kong.
I chose these urban landscapes of Hong Kong because I wanted to show the colour and beauty. This is a tryptic with three separate images on paper. I used the transfer technique for the building, and I enjoyed this technique as it was the best way to copy the buildings. I wanted to zoom_news1316438_1335527share the architecture of Hong Kong. This series started my investigation of my culture and Hong Kong which was part of my theme.

Eva Redmond has attended KES for two years and is from Gander, Newfoundland.
I chose to share my photography book that I made as my main art form because it encompasses all my photography work that I have done in the last two years. I was influenced by last year’s graduate, Bryan Li, and the book that he made last year called “Stare”; my book is called “Free”. I chose the photo of Sarah Bell because of the high contrast image, and I like the lights.
Future plans: Marketing and Film.

Aimee Cooper has attended KES for two years and is from Bahamas.
I chose this transfer drawing that I did in the beginning of my Grade 12 year because it inspired my studio work for IB and the direction that I wanted to go. The theme of the transfer was one of the homes that was destroyed by Hurricane “Dorian”. This image was haunting since I am from Bahamas and I wanted to repeat it in other projects.
Future plans: I want to become a medical examiner.
