King’s-Edgehill School has an active social media presence on Facebook and we know many KES parents are also active social media users. We love researching, reading and engaging with online content that is relevant to parenting and education and as such thought we would share a list of some of the best Canadian Twitter accounts for parents:
Alyson Schafer @AlysonSchafer
Alyson is a therapist and internationally acclaimed parenting expert who shares parenting advice on her website and on Twitter. She writes on parenting subjects that parents of children of any age can relate to including anxiety, reading, self-esteem, confidence as well as issues pertaining to alcohol and drug use. Alyson has written and spoken on parenting issues for over 15 years and has over 400 blog posts on various parenting subjects to peruse.
Colleen O’Dea @CurtainsAreOpen
Colleen O’Dea writes and tweets about raising teens as a single mom in Canada’s East Coast. She has an entire section of her blog devoted to raising teens and covers topics such as back to school shopping, teen romances, braces and juggling three teens actively involved in sports. Colleen has won the Reader’s Choice award for the “Best of” Halifax several years in a row.
Emma Waverman @EmmaWaverman
Emma Waverman is a Toronto mom of three children, with the youngest in Grade Six. She writes and tweets about the challenges, humour and the chaos of modern family life. She has also written for a variety of national parenting and lifestyle newspapers and magazines. She is open about her children’s struggles in school, with anxiety and is always 100% authentic in her writing.
Leanne Shirtliffe @LeanneShirtliffe
Although her twins are only ten years old, Leanne Shirtliffe has a lifetime of parenting topics that parents of younger and older children can relate to and laugh about. Whether she is writing or tweeting about reading, school supply lists, craft disasters or what Easter looks like with Teens, Leanne’s writing is sure to make you smile, nod your head in agreement and make you think about the lighter side of parenting.
Jeni is a freelance writer who is often featured on the popular parenting website, the Yummy Mummy Club. She has two children and has recently entered the teeanage years, a time she identifies as awkward. If you want insight into the teen years, or just want to know that you are not alone in trying to navigate these interesting years of parenting, Jeni has plenty of information and experience to share (and commiserate with).
Erica Ehm @YummyMummyClub
Whether you have infants or teens (or both!), Yummy Mummy Club is a blog website started by Canadian media personality Erica Ehm. There are a plethora of articles, resources and blog posts on everything from communicating with teens, keeping your relationship strong, and much more. Erica also maintains an active presence on Twitter and often shares funny tidbits about her life, children and of course, parenting.
