Inside King's-Edgehill School

New Call-to-action

Bravo

bravoRecently, our students participated in the annual KES Cultural Fair, giving them an opportunity to share information with one another about their countries, including foods, traditions, and of course Arts and entertainment. Leading up to our variety show, I was teaching the first term Grade 10 Fine Arts ensemble music class which included students from around the world. This group was featured at our recent Coffee House and Cultural Fair variety showcase. They performed a Chinese rap song, a Spanish pop song, and this Japanese song, sung by Japanese students Hidemi Sato and Ayumu Goto. The musicians include: Haichuan (River) Qi on guitar, Tyra Alleyne on drums, Claudia Villaorduna on keyboard, and Aidan Burke Hennigar on bass. This group was a lot of fun to teach and they were a hit among their peers. I have asked Hidemi to introduce the Japanese song in this week's clip and give you some background:

This song "Vchiage Hanabi" (Sky Rocket), by Daoko was used in a Japanese animation movie and it was very popular last summer in Japan. Since fireworks fall for a second, this song reveals that special unforgettable moment that you had in summer with your significant other.
I'm Hidemi Sato. It has almost been 6 months and I'm not used to time here yet, but through Music class I noticed that I actually enjoy the school life at KES. I really like Music class with Mr. Smith! I enjoyed singing in front of people in the Coffee House and Cultural Fair! Thank you!

Enjoy the performance.
