Dining in with the 254

Dining in with the 254

The evening of Thursday, March 25th was one filled with excitement and joy.  On this occasion the RSM, CWO Sarah Hilborn, her Master Warrant Officers, Warrant Officers and Grade 12 Sergeants hosted the Headmaster, Mr Seagram, Dr Seagram and the Cadet Staff for a fine dinner in our Stanfield Dining Room/McLellan Annex.  Place cards were printed, the candles were lit, the trophies were placed on the crisp white tablecloths and the meal was excellent.  Our Junior School contributed the lion’s share of the serving staff.

Service is a huge enterprise in the 254, not to be taken lightly, once one volunteers.  Shored up by a number of Grade 10 and 11 Cadets, this party under the guidance of Sergeant Polet Sanchez Garcia were thorough professionals.  The PMC, Master Warrant Officer Grace Gallant, an accomplished public speaker and debater, guided us through the meal and made everyone feel at home.  Sergeant Major Righo Etou and CQMS Chloe McClean gave the Ode to the Haggis.  Of course, from there the dinner got noticeably lighter as Warrant Officer Carter Short stood up and retorted with the Ode to Mousse.  Fittingly, the Haggis and the Mousse were then served together.  Rumour has it that Warrant Officer Jem Logan had 13 helpings of Haggis - obviously a true Highlander or a very hungry one.

Our Headmaster spoke of the spirit in the Corps.  The RSM detailed the year of training and the Commanding Officer rounded out the evening by handing out some well-earned and deserving promotions and appointments, most notably that of new Master Warrant Officer Maya Faucher. Sergeant Major Faucher now takes the reins of Delta Company.  Well done!

The evening complete, the cleanup was done, and we all retired to our quarters confident in the knowledge that the customs and traditions of the 254 were safe and sound within our ranks.  What a great day to be a Cadet in the 254.
