Junior School 2020 Poetry Competition

zoom_news1316551_1335643Poetry limbers up the imagination and is a true art form that packs emotional punch.  We saw first-hand the power of poetry in our Junior School Assembly on Wednesday, February 26th, when thirteen students from Grades 7 through 9 stepped forward to recite their favourite poems.  There was a plethora of styles, ranging from original creations to Shakespearean sonnets, free verse to rhyming schemes.  Themes of friendship, faith, ecology and society were explored.  You could hear a pin drop as students recited their chosen poems, making us laugh, sigh, and think carefully about the messages conveyed.

large_news1316551_1335635Sincere appreciation is extended to all students who delivered their poems; without question, they are all winners and can be proud of their efforts to stand up and effectively deliver in front of the entire Junior School.  The judges chose their top performance for the 2020 Junior School Poetry Competition:  Alex Graham’s rendition of “I Am Someone”, a poem he composed himself. I personally congratulate and thank Vincent Armstrong, Julia Field, Alex Graham, Antonio Landry, Will Larder, Tanvi Manchineni, Emily Mei, Papa Ofori, Sachaa Rudrum-Bhimji, Hannah Stilwell and Sabine Wellard for sharing their passion with us and starting our day off in such a creative and thought-provoking way.
