KES Gets Ready to Reopen

IMG_0493As we prepare for the school year ahead, the health of our students, staff and extended KES community is paramount. We are excited to finally be learning and living together, but very aware that special attention will be necessary to maintain a healthy campus. After consultation with the Chief Medical Officer of Nova Scotia, KES has an approved plan for reopening that includes important preventative measures. Some of these changes will take a little getting used to and others have already become common practice for many. Regardless, these safeguarding protocols will not change the campus spirit and usual KES community engagement!

It is essential for the 2020-21 year that all members of the KES community are vigilant in their life at home. Students, staff and families are asked to monitor their own health daily, exercise prevention, and avoid large social gatherings and high-risk areas. We are counting on everyone to do their part, follow all provincial guidelines, and be supportive of the goals of the School to provide a safe and healthy environment.

We have put together a lengthy document, School Opening Plan for 2020-2021, a document, that has been sent to all students and parents. This document outlines the key measures we will put in place to minimize and mitigate the dangers and disruption of the coronavirus. There are no perfect solutions or perfect bubbles, but if we all do our part, we can reduce the chances of infection to a level which will allow us to live and learn, to laugh and play, in as healthy a manner as possible.

With that outlook, we are excited about the year ahead. We are ready for its challenges and more than happy to receive students back on campus! It has been far too long. In some ways, KES will be better than ever. Our class sizes are even smaller this year. We have planned more on campus events. We are also thrilled to be doing far more activities outside in the glorious fresh air of our rural campus and province. Be it classes or sports, evening activities or weekend adventures, it will be wonderful to be outside more often.
