Inside King's-Edgehill School

Name Art with Heart

Name wArt with HeartFor the first time in our history, King’s-Edgehill School campus is closed following the WHO’s guidelines in response to the spread of the COVID-19 virus.  While our campus remains closed, our School is very much open for learning.  In fact, we welcomed students back to our virtual campus the day after our scheduled March break ended.  We are fortunate to have such a close-knit community defined by a network of authentic relationships.  It is during these challenging times that we can lean on these connections, even at a distance.  We are here to support each other.

The learning curve is steep for all of us, and our promise in the Junior School is to help each other and adapt as we go.  Zoom videoconferencing is proving to be a reliable conduit between students and staff.  In conjunction with our MyKES platform, Zoom further enhances student learning.  Its interface with whiteboard, annotation tools, audio and video possibilities allows for effective face-to-face teaching and learning.  Who would have thought that a baby boomer like myself would become a neo-Zoomer?

I am thrilled that students can enjoy seeing and interacting with their classmates, seeking and receiving their teachers' support, and having meaningful conversations.  Junior School teachers and advisors are checking in with their students daily, and students can feel the support and comfort of being back in School with those who care about them.  Our commitment is that we will work hard to ensure our academic standard of excellence is maintained.  Each member of the Junior School remains close in thought.  Although our informal corridor contacts are on hold for a while, my personal connection with each Junior student remains foremost in my mind.  I was inspired, while reflecting on the reality of our physical separation, to create some “name art with heart”.  With a little mathematical calculation and a touch of graphic flair, every Junior student’s name found its place on my at-home classroom whiteboard.  Indeed, we remain connected.
