Provincial Win in University of Waterloo Math Contests!

The Pascal (Grade 9), Cayley (Grade 10) and Fermat (Grade 11) Waterloo Math Contests were held on February 27th, and presentations to our KES Mathletes were made at the April 25th School assembly. Certificates of Distinction are awarded to those scoring in the upper 25% of all contestants worldwide, and a medal is awarded to the highest scoring student in the School.

KES Results for the Grade 9 Pascal Contest: (All received Certificates of Distinction – top 25%):
1st – Yifei (Sean) Sun – also 22nd in Nova Scotia
2nd – Jiahuan (Edward) He
3rd – Haichuan (River) Qi
4th – Kaylee Hickey
5th – Jiahe (Aaron) Lu

KES Results for the Grade 10 Cayley Contest: (All received Certificates of Distinction – top 25%):
1st – Junxi (Oscar) Ou (11th in Nova Scotia)
2nd – Xinyi (Cindy) Li (19th in Nova Scotia)
3rd – Jiawen (Madison) Mu

KES Results for the Grade 11 Fermat Contest: (All received Certificates of Distinction – top 25%)
1st – Jiashu (Jay) Liu – also placed 1st in Nova Scotia!
Tie for 2nd – Runjie (Jeremy) Huang and Phoebe Yuen - also tied for 5th in Nova Scotia
4th – Pin-Yu (Steven) Huang – also 15th in Nova Scotia
Three way tie for 5th – Qianhui (Venus) Hong, Wei-Jung (Joanne) Huang and Weijia (Torres) Liu – also tied for 30th in Nova Scotia.

In addition, the top three scores from each school are added to make the team score. The team of Jiashu, Runje and Phoebe placed 1st in Nova Scotia in the Grade 11 Fermat Contest. That makes them Provincial Champions!
Jiashu also placed 1st as an individual in Nova Scotia, so he is a two-time Provincial Champion from this contest!
