Inside King's-Edgehill School

Successful KES Invitational Wrestling Tournament

Our King’s-Edgehill Wrestling team had a successful weekend to start the competitive season on January 18-19. This team, our biggest in many years, began the weekend on Saturday by hosting the 25th Annual King’s-Edgehill Invitational Wrestling Tournament. We had many new wrestlers, including Chaz Faucher and Owura Ofori – two of the younger student-athletes in our School. They were led by our Seniors: Bella-Turner Galaise, Aimee Cooper, and captain Quinn Emery, who was on the disabled list but provided valuable coaching all day. Some performances of note included that of Luis Reutner, our brand-new 111 kilogram German student who won his first-ever match with several 4-point takedowns despite a sore knee. Maya Faucher wrestled very technical matches and won second place against older opponents. Victor Moreno also had his first tournament and earned second place with his technical, aggressive style. David Helyer and Aimee Cooper each earned ‘Athlete of the Week’ with their GOLD medal wins. Our Senior girls missed first place by one point, and our Senior boys came in third even though they were missing six boys.

The winter storm did not stop our student-athletes from competing at the Nova Scotia Opens on Sunday. Although many wrestlers were missing, they made the most of it by getting in as much wrestling as possible.

We would like to send special thanks to those who provided immense help to us over the weekend, particularly Olivia Drava for helping with anything we asked, to the Girls’ Rugby and Track and Field Teams for operating their canteens, and to past captains and Old Boys Nathan Danquah and Jacob Givner for providing their time as referees on Saturday.
