Weight Room Supervisors

Posted by KES Blogging Team on Oct 5, 2019 5:14:00 PM

Weight room supervisors are senior students (Grades 11 & 12) who ensure that student-athletes use the weight room safely. These student-leaders are trained in Emergency First Aid and also take part in the Weight Room Supervisor Workshop. They volunteer their time to make the free-weight rooms available to their fellow students. Other students are not able to access the free-weight areas without a staff/faculty member or a Weight Room Supervisor present. I would like to thank these students in advance for their selfless leadership and contribution to our School community.

Our Summer Rugby Players

Posted by KES Blogging Team on Oct 2, 2019 9:35:32 AM

The mud on their boots probably wasn’t even dried up from their last games of the high school season before seven of our students were lacing them up again to represent Nova Scotia as members of the provincial ‘Keltics’ rugby programme. On the boys’ side, brothers   Evan (U-18) and Jem Logan (U-16)  were joined by   Greg Otto (U16)  in suiting up for their respective age-grade teams. Not to be outdone, four of our female students traded in their red KES uniforms for blue Keltics uniforms as they represented Nova Scotia.   Megan Mattie  and   Maya Faucher  both were members of the Under-16 team while   Courtney Ells  and   Camryn Kleynhans  led the charge for the Under-18 team. These seven student-athletes first competed in the Atlantic Canadian Championships in PEI before heading to Kingston, Ontario to compete at the Eastern Canadian Championships.

In addition to being selected for the Keltics,   Camryn and Courtney  were both identified as top players in their age group and were invited to attend the U-18 Canada East training camp which took place at Brock University in Ontario. While   Courtney  was unable to attend,   Camryn  had the opportunity to compete against the USA East U-18 team which is an accomplishment for which she deserves much credit.

First Run of the Season

Posted by KES Blogging Team on Sep 29, 2019 9:35:00 AM

Dodging branches, trying not to slip in mud, and always trying to do their best were among the reasons why the 115 runners that were guests of ours on September 24 th  for our annual race laced their shoes.  Before sharing a few storylines from the races, I must begin by thanking   Ms. Teresa Sanford  on behalf of the Gladys M Manning Memorial Home and Mr. Danny Dill for so kindly allowing us to use their magnificent properties. Thank you.

A Battle to the End

Posted by KES Blogging Team on Sep 26, 2019 7:00:00 AM

Having only a couple of training sessions under their belts, our boys took to the Horton High School field this week to play against a strong home team. The first 15 minutes or so saw Horton comfortably on top with a number of clear-cut chances but, with some last ditch defending and excellent goalkeeping,   Ken Lee  kept Horton out. Unfortunately, it didn’t take long for the home side to open the scoring following an attack down our right side.

Full Gallop for Senior Girls Soccer

Posted by KES Blogging Team on Sep 25, 2019 3:46:05 PM

Wow…how one week can change so much! From final tryouts and then straight into a tournament at Rothesay Netherwood School with 3 games and 1 exhibition match against cross-town rivals Avon View High School, our KES Senior Girls Soccer team is off and running full gallop into their season. Last weekend’s Top of the Hill Tournament allowed our girls to bond off the field, create and develop on-field chemistry, and put into practice many of the key points they worked on in early training sessions. Three tough opponents demanded our full attention and best effort, pushing us to be at our best.   Coaches Dufour and Chandler  are very pleased with how far the girls have developed and are proud of their attitudes and effort!
