Mar/15/2019 ![ski racers](https://blog.kes.ns.ca/hs-fs/hubfs/ski%20racers.jpeg?width=375&name=ski%20racers.jpeg) The productive season of training and racing at Martock culminated with our Varsity Ski Team on the road for Provincial competition. Tuesday was a day of training to familiarize our athletes with the new environment and to train on the hill where they would be racing. Wednesday was Ski Provincials at Ski Wentworth. Fresh snow the previous two days along with a sunny and relatively warm winter day made excellent conditions to finish the year. Here are some of the highlights of the day: • GOLD performance for the Intermediate Girls Team – **Svenja Priggemeyer, Sarah Sidorchuk, and Zhi (Angel) Li**. In addition, **Svenja** won SILVER Intermediate Girls Individual, and **Sarah** placed only a few spots off the podium with a 7th place individual finish. • The Senior Girls brought home the SILVER – **Katie Goddard** (who also placed 4th individually), **Elizabeth Walsh** (also placed 6th individually), and **Laura Gillis**. • On the Boys side, **Eric Sweetapple** placed 4th individually in the Junior Boys Category. • For Intermediate Boys, **Mitchell Larkin** brought home the Individual SILVER Medal. To top off the day, **Old Boy David Wilson (KCS 1943-47)** was on hand to visit with and support our KES student athletes. What a lovely surprise! As coaches, we are so proud of all of our athletes! Their commitment to training this winter, their desire to learn how to ski better and faster, their support of each other, their desire and work ethic to help with course set up and clean up, and the fact that they all enjoy spending sports time together and with us every day at the hill made it a spectacular winter! A big thank you to our Grade 12 students: **Mathew, Elizabeth, Joanna, Natsuki, **and** Nick** - we will miss you next year. And a big thank you to **Captains, Katie and Mitchell** for their leadership in training, setting courses, leading inspections at races and supporting the team throughout the season.
