While COVID-19 has put a damper on singing and ensemble performance in the classroom thus far, we took advantage of the opportunity to showcase some of our School musicians outside during the post Terry Fox Run BBQ on campus last weekend. To get things going for my weekly featured talents, both new and well established, I want to introduce one of the newest additions to our performing arts programme, Grade 10 day-student, Lennon Rutledge.
I met Lennon on the first day of school and asked her if she liked music. She smiled bashfully and in a muted voice said that she liked to sing a little bit. A friend accompanying her quickly added, "She's on YouTube"! The girls then went on their way, and I immediately did a YouTube search for Lennon. Her face popped up on the screen with a recording of her singing John Lennon's, Imagine. After giving that a listen, I was quick to find her and asked her to perform at the Terry Fox BBQ. She accepted, and here is a clip of her singing her rendition of Lonely, by Noah Cyrus. You can bet that I will keep her busy singing whenever she is not on the pitch with our Girls’ Prep Soccer Team! Yeah, her talents run deep! I have asked Lennon to add a few personal thoughts:
My name is Lennon Marie Rutledge. This is my first year attending KES. I am a very competitive soccer player, where I play at the U15AAA Halifax County United Soccer Club. I also play Team Nova Scotia soccer and currently have been in the running for the Canada Games soccer tryouts. I have been singing since I was eight years old and have sung at many events including Hfx. soccer and Hfx. Hurricanes basketball. Last year I also performed on the Hfx. Christmas Daddies.
