zoom_news1385300_1384933The newest student to arrive at King's-Edgehill School is Hannah Koppernaes from Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia. After touring the campus, she joined our Grade 11 class one week later. I had met her when she toured and learned that she was enthusiastic about music and intended to take my IB music class. Last Monday was her first day. She seemed to settle in right away. Tuesday was already marked for her classmates of the IB music class to perform a piece for a jury of adjudicators and some peer onlookers as part of their performance grade. When the students arrived, I casually invited Hannah to perform as well, but only if she wanted to, or to simply observe; no pressure. Hannah jumped at the chance and asked, "Can I go warm up?" Remember: this is only her second day at KES! She sang a song and accompanied herself on the piano. She performed very well, but unfortunately, the 7'6" grand piano overpowered her lovely soprano voice. I should have set up a microphone for her; my mistake for not doing so.

The next day, Hannah arrived at our Concert Hall during tutorial time and began to play a lovely tune on the piano. When asked, she told me that the music is part of an anime soundtrack. I requested to record her and, of course, she agreed. That's her style. I love it. She is so eager and passionate to play.
I am pleased and proud to share her performance of Date 2 & Mitsuha's Theme (Kimi no Na wa / Your Name) composed by the Japanese rock group, Randwimps.

Enjoy the performance!
