It is the happiest of days today. The last exam has been written, the first term is over, and the Christmas Holidays await students and faculty alike. The calendar is such that this year our students receive three full weeks of holiday – imagine that! No wonder everyone is feeling tidings of comfort and joy today.
Glad tidings arrived this morning from our Art teacher Caroline Hamilton who has been on maternity leave since the beginning of November. Happily she and her husband Brad have received the best present possible in welcoming their baby girl – Sienna Gail Hamilton Gillis – to the world. Eight pounds and four ounces of pure joy to add to the celebration of the birth of Jesus.
If the rain keeps up we may need to build an ark – which is an entirely different Bible story of course – but the downpours this week have everyone wondering about the weather. Yesterday, between deluges, the sun came out and the temperature soared to 16 degrees. Incredible. A walk around campus revealed that the balance beam on the obstacle course by Turtle Pond is completely under water. The pond has risen over five feet this week!
Normally the calendar year begins and ends in winter. Snow blankets the ground and the world looks pristine and white. I don’t know what all this mud and green grass foretells for 2015, but I am hoping that by December 31st Mother Nature has had a chance to catch up and smother us in gorgeous amounts of snow.
Wishing everyone the merriest of Christmases, the safest of holidays, and the best of health and happiness for 2015.
Sincerely,
Joe Seagram
