254 Sergeants Mess Dinner 2018

mess dinner2A major event in the lives of the Warrant Officers and Senior Non-Commissioned Officers of the 254 King’s-Edgehill School Cadet Corps is the Annual Sergeants Mess Dinner. Stanfield Dining Hall/McLellan Annex was transformed into the formal dining room of the Sergeants Mess complete with all the trimmings of candelabras, the historical trophies and the formal dinner arrangement.

The members of the Mess arrived promptly in their best dress sporting the kilts and sporrans of this fine Corps. The PMC duties this year went to Master Warrant Officer Julia Strickey. Julia was on the ball. The communications between her and the Chief Steward, Master Corporal Evan Logan were flawless. Master Corporal Logan was amply rewarded for his efforts by the Commanding Officer who used the occasion of the dinner to promote him to Sergeant. Well done, Evan.

The Regimental Sergeant Major, Chief Warrant Officer Ella Jollymore was gracious with her words thanking both the servers and the kitchen staff for an outstanding meal. She also took the opportunity to thank the seated members of the Corps for their exceptional performance, loyalty to the Corps and their Leadership of the younger members.

The Headmaster as always was eloquent in his words at the dinner. He stated that the Mess Dinner was one of the most enjoyable nights in the School calendar. He further complimented the Mess Members on their performance throughout the year.

The Keynote Speaker, Chief Julia Cecchetto of Kentville Police Service gave an outstanding talk to the Mess on women in policing and the issue of diversity which faces all of us in this day and age. She captured the attention of her audience and challenged them to stand up in the face of uncomfortable situations and meet life head on.

On a personal note, I would like to commend the amazing efforts put into the preparation of last night’s event. The Corps Administrative Officer, CI Morgaine Sullivan drew all of the working parts together from seating plans, menu items, place cards and a myriad of other tasks to ensure a successful outcome. The meal was prepared with pride and dedication. The Haggis, well I cannot say enough about the Haggis. It was great! There is a rumor that one of the Sergeants had 5 helpings. It speaks for itself.

Another amazing event in the history of this unique Corps, the 254 of King’s-Edgehill School.
