Inside King's-Edgehill School

Emerging Leader – Harrison Klein

Emerging Leader – Harrison Klein

Harrison Klein is this week’s Emerging Leader. Harrison, who resides in Hantsport, Nova Scotia, started at King’s-Edgehill School in the 7th grade and is on track to be a KES Lifer. Throughout his time with us, Harrison has grown, not just in stature, but also in maturity and perspective. With his involvement and accomplishments in academics, athletics, the arts and community service, Harrison is a true ‘Four Pillars’ student. So far this year, Harrison has been involved in our peer tutoring programme and most recently performed a beautiful violin solo at our Junior School Service of Lessons and Psalms.

What does Leadership mean to you?
Helping around where one can, and ‘clearing the unknown’- leading people in the right direction and putting yourself out there to help if someone is lost or in need.

In your opinion, what makes a good leader?
Someone who is compassionate and caring. Also, someone who can open up and relate to others’ experiences and is open to the ideas of others.

Are there challenges to being a leader at a young age?
Consistently living up to the expectations placed upon us can be a challenge, especially academically, but it is a good challenge to have.

What words would people use to describe your leadership style?
Caring, compassionate, light-hearted, and authentic.

Who do you look up to when it comes to leadership?
Historical figures like Nelson Mandela and Dr. Martin Luther King Junior are people who have influenced me. They are role models and taught me the importance of equality and justice.

What are your goals for the year?
Maintain good academic standing, continue to be authentic in every aspect. Reflect on my own experience and look for ways to improve myself.

If you could send a message to our youngest students in the Junior School, what would it be?
I would encourage them to stay authentic and be themselves. Also, I would tell them focus on their academics as this is a vital piece of life here at KES, but I would remind them to have fun with their friends in all of their activities at school.
