ESL Camp Starts this weekend

King’s-Edgehill School is proud to offer all international students the chance to participate in our ESL camp, which takes place right before thezoom_photo481811_6297845.jpg school year begins. Similar to the ESL program at KES, the ESL camp provides English language learners with an opportunity to learn and improve their English through a variety of activities and interactions.

The ESL Camp is also a wonderful opportunity for international students to get know one another and build new friendships. The 2016 ESL camp kicks off on Saturday, August 20th with lunch followed by a meet and greet at 1 p.m. Saturday will also be spent touring the campus and familiarizing students with the school through a fun scavenger hunt.

Every evening after supper, students are invited to relax and have fun by either participating in sports in the gym or on Jakeman, or play board games in the cafeteria.

Other activities our ESL students can look forward to include touring the Halifax Waterfront, touring the Halifax Citadel, and a tour of the Halliburton House. There will also be a day trip to Risser’s Beach and to Aylesford Lake. Campers will also get to try their hand at bowling and take a road trip to Oak Island.

All ESL students who participate in camp are given the opportunity to visit the local community that surrounds KES. Past years have seen students enjoy the sites and sounds of the Cabot Trail as well as sea kayaking in Mahone Bay. The ESL camp is a great way for students to immerse themselves in the local culture and see why so many people call Nova Scotia home!

All programming and activities planned for ESL students during the camp are designed to be fun, appealing and help students improve and increase their English grammar and vocabulary. This is why students will not only have the opportunity to tour and learn about the local community, but also will learn and play a variety of sports during organized sports seminars. This combined with trips to museums, parks, and shopping malls, as well as the other planned activities will give our ESL students a well-rounded exposure to the English language, enabling them to start the academic year feeling confident and comfortable.

In the past, our international ESL students have come from Taiwan, Mexico, Columbia, Germany, and China! We look forward to greeting this year’s group of enthusiastic students and watching their English skills improve through our fun and engaging programming.
