Grade 12 student, Dalia Alrashdan, performed the National Day Song of her home country, Kuwait, at our recent International Cultural Fair variety showcase. Her rendition was as pleasing to the ear as her attire was to the eye. It is always a pleasure to celebrate music of the many different cultures that comprise our student body. Hearing the different musical complexities is both interesting and entertaining. This video exposes Dalia's pride of her heritage and her smile and her body language complement her musicality in this demonstration of Nationalism.
I was grateful to be able to perform a Kuwaiti song and be able to expose my culture and origin. This song was created by Balqees Ahmed Fathi and it’s called “National Day Song”. She created it specially for Kuwait National Day and since then it has become a big hit, and everyone would enjoy “hala February” which is the celebration of Kuwaiti Freedom Month. February hala means “hi welcome” in Arabic. The song has a strong meaning for how she always misses Kuwait and she highlights all Kuwaiti’s charming points such as the style and the mesmerizing beaches, the fashion sense and the food filled with rich spices. This song touched Kuwaitis as it relates to how they feel when they are back home.
