KES Students Lending Many Helping Hands

Our Annual Terry Fox Superstore Bagging Fundraiser took on special meaning this year as the promise of Hurricane Dorian placed additional importance on our community volunteer effort.  The weekend before the Terry Fox Run traditionally marks our Superstore Fundraiser for Cancer Research but this year there was an added twist.  The forecasted arrival of Hurricane Dorian on Saturday, September 7th, played havoc with our scheduled Saturday activity.  Plans changed quickly and students eagerly signed up to donate their time and energy on the eve of the hurricane.  While the purpose of the fundraiser is to raise community awareness of the Terry Fox story and kick-start our fundraising efforts for cancer research, this year students discovered that their help was needed to service the long lines of shoppers preparing for the effects of the storm.

The students worked cheerfully and tirelessly to keep the lines moving while engaging with the public and expediting the checkout process.  They were a tremendous help to the Superstore and the Windsor community.  The sixteen volunteers worked in two 3-hour shifts without a break, packing groceries and promoting the Terry Fox Run.  Their efforts resulted in our most successful fundraiser to date, raising almost $1800.
