What do you wish for your child and his/her education? Hands-on learning experiences? Increased awareness of their surroundings? A supportive faculty who truly cares about your child? King's Edgehill School, located in Windsor, Nova Scotia, places heavy value on helping your child reach his/her full potential. We stimulate your child’s environment with a thirst for learning through several school-based activities, but why not go a step further?

We are excited to announce that our school will offer a Leadership Expedition to Tanzania in March 2016! This expedition will provide students with a life-changing experience as they learn more about themselves and their full potential while working in groups and exploring a land that is new to them. Your child will acquire a new-found appreciation for things often taken for granted, such as electricity and running water (two days without) and communication devices like cell phones and iPods.

Trip Schedule

The Leadership Expedition is comprised of three exciting and unique parts as follows:

1. Game Safari and Cultural Exchange: Beginning in Arusha, we will travel through Lakes Natron and Manyara. Tarangire National Park, and the Ngorogoro and Empakai Craters. We will camp either throughout this section or in the game preserves.

2. Community Service: We will travel back to the Matonyok Orphanage where we built two classrooms back in 2013. We plan to add more classrooms to the two we built to date and our project will be to assist Naomi and the 40 children in her care in whichever way she needs such as chores, projects, and teachings. We will be camping on site until the last part of our trip.

3. The climb of the one and only Mt. Kilimanjaro!

Preparation

Because the safety and health of your child is of utmost concerns, preparation for the trip will begin following Thanksgiving break. Students must be physically and mentally ready to adapt to higher altitude mountaineering. This training cannot be done last minute or at a low intensity and will require commitment by each student who decides to attend the trip. Failure to commit to the training program may result in poor health at altitude and will compromise the team's dynamic. Our advanced preparation program is one of the main reasons why we have had successful trips in the past, which is why the training program is mandatory.
