Meet our KES Artists

Please mark your calendar for a very special date. Thursday, March 28, 2019 is the date of the opening of our incredible KES IB Art Exhibition. The exhibition will showcase the very talented work of our Grade 11 and 12 IB Art Students. We are very excited that this will be one of the largest shows that we have ever hosted. There will be 25 Grade 12 students and 25 Grade 11 students in this exhibition. Watch for your invitation!

Because we have such a large, talented group of Art students this year, I plan to highlight 3 students in each Newsletter until March break. I hope you enjoy getting to know each of our Artists a little bit better.

KES artists
Che Him (Bryan) Li is from Hong Kong and has been at KES for 3 years.
“I have a few pieces that are my favourite. I have chosen this collage because it resonates with me. It also speaks a lot about where I come from. Visually, I am very drawn to the geometric shapes and the sense of order. It represents living space. In the foreground, I have sewn two trees (in black) which represents the absence of nature."
My future plans: I want to represent my heritage with my art work and continue with my passion - Photography.

Wei-Jung (Joanne) Huang is from Taipei, Taiwan and this is her 2nd year at KES.
“Juifen in the Rain” is my favourite art piece. I have chosen this painting because it reminds me of home. I love painting street scenes and the bright colours of the umbrellas. The bright colours of the signs and umbrellas glow against the grey sky."

My future plans: I want to study architecture at university.

Eric Mei is from New Minas, Nova Scotia and he has been at KES for 7 years.
“The art work that I chose is my drawing 'Bryan and I'. This pencil drawing is of myself and my friend Bryan. It is based on a photo that Calvin Shen took of us. The photo shows different facial expressions and the depth of friendship. I am very pleased with the shading in this drawing."
My future plans: I plan to attend University and to get better at my craft.
