The Alumni & Advancement Team Takes Toronto

It was a short, but action-packed, trip to Toronto, Ontario for our Alumni Relations team October 28th – 30th. Advancement Officer Jenn Shaw and Director of Advancement, Heather Strickey, left bright and early on Monday the 28th, making it downtown through rush hour in time to watch the 2019 NBA Toronto Raptors defeat the Orlando Magic on home turf. They were joined at the game by Myles and Bev Smith, Parents to Alumnae Hannah (2014-17) and Maddie (2015-19).

Trying out a new, more casual kind of meet-up—since it was the middle of the work and school week—on Tuesday morning Heather and Jenn met up with Headmaster Joe Seagram, and then posted up in the coziest section of the Buttery in the Larkin Building at the University of Toronto’s St. George campus. Cracking open their laptops, the team managed to sneak in at least a few spare minutes of work over the course of the day as Alumni dropped in and out. Across several hours, they had a chance to catch up with Alumni Ariel Chang (2016-2018), Tony Mei (2012-2018), Yian Wang (2012-2017), Daniel Roukema (1990-1992), Maddy Walsh (2015-2019), Steven Huang (2015-2019), and Calvin Shen (2014-2019). We can happily mention that Maddy, Stephen, and Calvin only graduated last June, and that we are so excited to see some of our newest Alumni engaging with their alma mater already!

A few other members of the KES Community also made time to stop by the Buttery: Michael Chow—a consultant of the School and Parent of Alum Brendon Chow (2012-14)—made time to come say “Hi,” and the Headmaster, Jenn, and Heather also had a chance to meet Bryn MacPherson, who is an Assistant Vice-President at U of T, and Parent to Grade 12 Student Keiller White (2018-2020)!

After all that “work” in the Buttery, Jenn, Heather, and the Headmaster headed down to the Biermarket on the Esplanade. There a healthy crowd (certainly too many to list!) came out to enjoy some delicious food and a selection of 150 “biers.”

The next day on the 30th, before flying back into Halifax, Jenn and Heather had a lovely lunch with sisters and Edgehill Old Girls Tanna (Goldberg) Schulich (1955-1960) and Joanne (Goldberg) Weigen (1948-1953).

Like I said—it was a busy couple of days!
