Virtual Event Season… Could we be nearing the end???

Virtual Event Season… Could we be nearing the end???

When Jenn and I met in August to discuss what type of events the KES Advancement and Alumni Department would host for the 2020-2021 School year, we were really unsure of what the world would hold for us.  Would we need to plan virtual events for the whole year or would at some point, our battle with COVID-19 cease with it being vanquished from our planet?  We took a cautious, yet optimistic approach and planned virtual events spanning into April.  We were hopeful that, in May 2021, we could start welcoming guests back onto campus and host our annual events in person.  We still remain optimistic and hope that with the rise in vaccinations, the relatively low numbers of COVID-19 in the province, and with the re-opening of the Atlantic Bubble that we will be seeing some of you in the near future!

Virtual Event Season… Could we be nearing the end???
Jenn, Kelly, and I have enjoyed hosting the KES Virtual Event Series this year and have loved connecting with our KES families over the medium of Zoom.  In 2021, we hosted a diverse grouping of events. In January, Alumna Jess (Wilson) Macy (‘03) hosted a fitness class that still has many citing how tough, yet fun, it was.  In February, we had our most participants to date Zoom in to hear Alumnus Daniel Roukema (’92) lead a powerful discussion on the timely and important topic of what inclusion really means when embracing equity and diversity in our society.  Participants were invited to email Daniel about ways they might think and act differently to encourage and embrace equity and diversity.  Those who followed up had their names put into a draw and Karlee Sinclair (Faculty) won a special pin and Oonagh Proudfoot won a Black Lives Matter t-shirt.  Thank-you to everyone who submitted their thoughts to Daniel.

One of the more popular virtual events we host are our KES Virtual Trivia Nights.  On Thursday, March 11th, we had many intrepid players log into Zoom to compete over 76 questions that ran the gambit from knowing your wildlife trivia to polishing off your obscure KES facts.  In the end, the Short Family [Kimberley (’93), Larry, and Carter (’22)], found themselves on the top of the podium, with Karan Shetty (’95) and his young family in second, and rounding out the podium finishers was Faculty member, Paul Hollett!

Our last scheduled virtual event is on the 7th of April (8 pm AST), and it features KES Parents, Larry and Kimberley Short ('93). As retirement planning experts, Larry and Kimberley will provide professional advice and tips on how to kickstart your retirement planning. This series is open to anyone who is planning on retiring soon or simply wanting to prepare for retirement in the future. The webinar is one hour, interactive, and fun!   Please click here to register for our last offering of our virtual season.
