2023 Girls Conference: Girls in Action!

On Thursday, May 25, a group of students and faculty had the incredible opportunity to attend this conference at Mount Saint Vincent University.

The conference was filled with incredible moments and opportunities for our students to learn, grow, and feel empowered. We were privileged to have renowned keynote speakers grace the stage including Chelsey Gotell. Chelsey is a remarkable individual, a three-time Canadian Paralympian, and a 12-time Paralympic medalist in the sport of swimming. Her inspiring journey and achievements served as a beacon of hope, showing our girls that they can overcome any obstacle and achieve greatness.

Throughout the conference, our students actively listened to panel discussions with women in politics and prominent leaders in Nova Scotia. They also had the chance to explore various workshops and sessions which included girls in sports, consent, writing and poetry, entrepreneurship, and self-defence. The diversity of these sessions allowed our students to explore their interests, discover new passions, and gain valuable skills.

One of the highlights of the event was the appearance of a special guest, 15-year-old Damini Awoyiga. Damini, a spoken word poet for the past five years, has captivated audiences with her thought-provoking and impactful performances. Her ability to use spoken word poetry to shed light on social justice issues resonated deeply with our students. Damini's presence was truly an honor, and her words left an indelible mark on everyone in attendance.

We are proud to report that our students left the conference feeling inspired and empowered. The 2023 Girls Conference: Girls in Action! provided a platform for our girls to discover their voices, build confidence, and recognize their potential to make a positive impact on the world. We believe that this experience will leave a lasting impression on their personal and academic journeys.
