Inside King's-Edgehill School
Twelve years ago, Federico Cisneros, a young Grade 8 student from Mexico, came to King’s-Edgehill School to take advantage of a one-year cultural and learning experience in Canada. He embraced the KES lifestyle and excelled in all aspects of our programme. In fact, things went so well for young Federico that he returned for Grades 9, 10, 11 and 12, and graduated in 2012 as our Head Boy.
The Canadian way of life was such a natural fit for Federico that he continued his passion for learning (and playing rugby) at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. But the Cisneros family’s Canadian connection runs much deeper: in 2011, a year before Federico graduated, his mother Clara and father Federico Sr. immigrated to Canada and became permanent residents in Nova Scotia. King’s-Edgehill School was very fortunate to receive Clara and Federico Sr. as house parents to the girls of Richardson Hall, and they have remained here ever since. They are a perfect fit for our campus way of life and their dedication, selfless attitude and willingness always to lend a helping hand are recognized and appreciated. Clara is also a talented IB Spanish teacher in our Senior School, and offers Spanish classes to adult learners in the broader community as well. Federico works locally in the Windsor area.
The Cisneros family’s affinity for all things Canadian was evident from the start. On Monday, October 21st, after a year-long application, Fede, Clara and Federico Sr. officially became Canadian citizens. Our entire community shared in the joy of the day. Not only are they an integral part of our KES family, they are now part of our Canadian family as well. When asked what it is about Canada that they enjoy the most, Federico Sr. was quick to answer: “It is really the warmth of the people of Nova Scotia and the immediate acceptance by our KES community that made us feel at home from the very beginning.” Knowing the Cisneros family well, I think it is possible that Canada got the better part of this deal!
