For the Week of January 6 – 12
Junior Boy - Weizhe (Alan) Xu has carried the Junior Boys' Basketball team on his capable shoulders in recent victories and at our recent ACIS tournament. He is a strong rebounder and drives hard to the hoop. He plays both ends of the court and anchors the team. Thanks for your contributions to the team, Alan.
Junior Girl - Hayden Lilly had a great NAPHA hockey weekend in Fredericton, New Brunswick. An all-around great forward, she led the charge with her incredible speed! Hayden played a strong overall game -- tough and smart in the defensive zone and fast and aggressively attacking the opponent’s net. We look forward to Hayden’s continued great work ethic and her development into an elite player. Keep up the great effort, Hayden!
Senior Girl - Deanna Fraser was the star of the game in our NAPHA league hockey game vs RNS last weekend. She made big saves all game and shut the door on RNS with a big 2-1 win! Deanna has excellent focus and lightning-fast reflexes, and her confidence spread through our team. She is always leading our team on and off the ice and sets a great example for our young players. Great leadership, Deanna!
Senior Boy - Josh Hunt - Our Boys’ Hockey team participated in our first Midget AAA Ice Jam event, hosted in Bedford, Nova Scotia. Hundreds of scouts from eastern Canada and the US attend this tournament to watch the players participating. Josh Hunt stood out from game one right to game five. He showcased his strong skating and puck control throughout the entire tournament. Josh finished the tournament with two goals and five assists for seven points in five games. Impressive results, Josh!
For the Week of January 13 – 19
Junior Boy - Chaz Faucher was one of the youngest competitors at our 25th Annual Wrestling Tournament on Saturday. Despite this, he bravely faced his competition with determination, athletic ability, and technical skills. He earned a third-place finish against older and more experienced wrestlers, winning two of his four matches. Chaz is one of our hardest working, multi-sport athletes, and we’re confident that, with lots more hard work, he’ll help ensure the future of this programme. Keep up the great work, Chaz!
Junior Girl - Elena Julien - This past weekend at the Canada Games Centre, Junior School student, Elena Julien, claimed a GOLD medal in her 60m hurdles race. Elena has proven, once again, that with a lot of effort and hard work, good things will come. She crossed the finish line a full five steps ahead of her competition. You can see her practicing Monday to Friday in the hallways of our Senior building, just don't blink. Well done, Elena!
Senior Girl - Aimee Cooper was the most valuable wrestler on the team this past Saturday at our 25th Annual King’s-Edgehill Invitational Tournament. Aimee realized after last year that in order to succeed, she would have to work harder so she redoubled her efforts in practice this year, and she won three out of her four round-robin matches via pin to eventually take home the GOLD medal for the Senior girls. Her matches were characterized by highly technical wrestling and improved fitness. Aimee is the main reason why our Senior Girls’ Team came within a point of winning first place, and she will be a key team member as the season progresses. We will count on her when we host the Provincial Wrestling Championship on March 7th. Keep up the hard work, Aimee!
Senior Boy - David Helyer competed in his very first wrestling tournament this past weekend. Despite being the youngest wrestler in his division, he earned a GOLD medal. His matches were some of the most exciting of the weekend. His technical skills are impressive for a new wrestler, his fitness is excellent, and he was the best scrambler in the gym. Our Wrestling Team is looking forward to benefitting from David’s valuable contributions in Sackville and at Regionals and Provincials here at King’s-Edgehill School in March. Bravo, David!
Athletics is one of the four pillars of a KES education. Sports are mandatory at every age and part of the day's schedule. With that much time devoted to physical activity, it's a good thing we have so many choices! Have a look at all the sports your child can try at KES: Download the Athletics Photojournal.
