“Athletes of the Week” (AOW) are selected based on athletic performance and sportsmanship. Positive sporting behaviour is valued at KES and integral to our Athletic Philosophy and School Mission Statement emphasizing gentleness and learning and dignity and respect.
FOR THE WEEK OF FEBRUARY 18 – 23
Junior Boy: Fox Sullivan is working hard to scratch off every second possible. He is always keen to be on the ski hill and enjoys his additional practice with “Super Friends Nova Scotia”. The extra work paid off as Fox had the second-best time (45.91seconds) of all Junior Boys at the first Regional race. Keep it up, Fox!
Junior Girl: Sasha Hodgson was unstoppable on the floor in the Junior Girls’ basketball game win over North Queens to earn the right to host the Tier 2 Regionals here at KES! She played tremendous on the ball, helped defense and set up her teammates with a number of great passes. Overall, it was her tenacity and extra effort that really set her apart on this day. Sasha’s 14 points were enough to propel us to victory.
Senior Female and Senior Male: Katie Goddard and Mitchell Larkin are a great pair as co-captains of our Varsity Ski Team. Their expertise and enthusiasm for the sport, their ability in course setting and sharing the love of ski racing with their fellow teammates makes them invaluable to our team. In addition, they were the fastest female and male on the hill for the first Regional Race of the season!
FOR THE WEEK OF FEBRUARY 24 – March 1
Junior Boy: Zane Scott: Our Developmental Hockey team had a wonderful day in Clare, NS on February 28, where they were fortunate enough to play some 3-on-3 hockey against two local teams. All our athletes worked hard, and Zane showcased all the great traits of a smart, strong and strategic player. His stick handling finesse enabled him to dangle through many players and ultimately score many goals throughout the two games. Most importantly, Zane's respect and sportsmanship were noticeable when he happily joined a line with two local Clare boys who joined our team to equal out the numbers. Thank you for your hard work and strong leadership.
Junior Girl: Lucy Goddard’s positive attitude and team approach to ski racing make her a pleasure to coach and a pleasure to ski with. She is introspective about her own skiing style and ability and able to set her priorities for training in order to improve not only her own times, but also her teammates’.
Senior Girl: Svenja Priggemeyer works hard at every practice and is constantly thinking about how to improve her ski technique as well as her speed. In Regional Race #2 last week, she clocked the fastest female time. Well done, Svenja!
Senior Boy: Carter Short has quickly established himself as a fierce competitor this ski season. He works hard in every training session, seeking coach feedback to improve both his technique and speed in gates. He also encourages his teammates, valuing that this sport is a team sport, not just an individual sport. In Race #2 he clocked the second fastest KES male times, second only behind teammate and captain Mitchell. Keep chasing him, Carter!
