Inside King's-Edgehill School

Black History Month at the 254

254 black history monthThe 254 is truly an International Cadet Corps. We are populated with Cadets from over 20 different nations. These amazing young people bring their own culture and flavor to our programme. This week King’s-Edgehill School hosted an Open House for prospective new families. As always, the 254 provided a Guard of Honour to welcome the new visitors to our Campus. In celebration of Black History Month, our latest Guard was comprised totally of African origin cadets. The Guard was commanded by our Corps’ Drill Instructor Warrant Officer, Aimee Cooper and featured senior cadets and several newly enrolled young men and women. Our Guard welcomed 18 families, executing a General Salute for each visitor. Imagine your first day visiting a new school and your first sight is a Guard made up of young persons of color, resplendent in Blackwatch kilt, red doublets, ceremonial belts, spats and sporrans. Oh, and by the way, they were all carrying Claymore Swords for the salute. Amazing! Of course, no guard at the 254 is complete without bagpipe music. Each salute delivered by the Guard was complemented with the piping skills of young Chaz Faucher (Grade 6), a budding bagpiper and future member of the Corps. This is the way of life in the 254 and King’s-Edgehill School.
