On Sunday, February 16
th, a small group of dancers, including myself, went with Ms. Cummings to watch a beautiful ballet production of
Cinderella.
As it was my first time watching a ballet performance, I thought it was going to be professional adults doing the show. When I saw that the performers were high school teens and younger kids too, it surprised and amazed me that there are such young, talented people around the world.
Even though there wasn’t speaking during the dancing, if you watched the performance carefully, audience members were still able to understand the story very well due to the communication through their talented dancing. During the
intermission, we left the theatre and ran into the Fairy Godmother! Their costumes were amazing, and the detailing was gorgeous. When Cinderella transformed from her maid outfit to her ballroom dress, it was a very satisfying and smooth reveal as her dress was hidden under her maid clothes. As we continued to watch the rest of the show, it made me think about how long they must practice and rehearse the movements.
Once the performance was done, we joined the crowd in a line up to receive autographs from Cinderella and the Fairy Godmother! We took pictures with Cinderella, the Fairy Godmother, the 2 Stepsisters, and 3 other dancers. We chatted together for a bit about their performance and our favourite parts; it was really neat being able to speak to the talented, young performers. I loved the show and I’m glad I got to go and enjoy it!
