German Baking with Frau Stuart

large_news1330298_1342377I hope that you are joyful and well and that you had a great week. Many of you were probably looking forward to today; not just because there is a mini-break coming up but also because many of us are looking forward to Easter and the festivities that come with it. I know that this year Easter will be quite different. We will not be able to celebrate it with friends and extended families. There will be no public Easter egg hunts and celebrations. However, I am sure that you will find ways to make the best of this situation as you have done so far. At least spring really seems to be in the air, and I hope that you will take time to enjoy the beautiful sun outside this weekend.

I want to share something with you. Many of you have seen my German students in the cafeteria baking and cooking. Maybe there were leftovers and you got to try some of the goodies. Maybe you just watched, hoping that at some point you would be invited to dive into the delicious cakes and cookies.

How about you try making them yourself?

I have decided to share some of my favorite recipes with you in a mini baking show. Just in time for Easter, Episode 1 of “German Baking with Frau Stuart” is out for you. I am making the famous Erdbeerrolle (Strawberry Roll) that all my German students experienced during their time at King’s-Edgehill. A previous German student, Marion Schwär (2009-11), and her family shared this recipe with me in my very first year as a teacher at KES.

Students, I bet your parents would be excited if you surprised them with some dessert to go with your (Easter) dinner! Please take a picture of your Strawberry Roll and send it to me or post it on social media.

Enjoy, have fun, and let me know if you have any questions about the recipe. I hope you enjoy the video!

Guten Appetit!
