Inside King's-Edgehill School
Awesome in its stately appearance and awe-inspiring in its superb collection, the Hon. A. Gordon Cooper Library here at KES is literally spreading the word! Little wee libraries have begun sprouting up in classrooms on campus – what better way to share the love of reading and learning?
The inspiration derives from the global phenomenon of the Little Free Library Sharing Network, a community book sharing boxes initiative started in 2010 by Todd H. Bol in Hudson, Wisconsin. Today there are over 80,000 Little Free Libraries in 85 countries promoting literacy and neighbourliness and sharing everything from books to clothing to non-perishable food items. So why not share the wisdom of the ages in a similar way, within our own School community and out of the largesse that is library?
To date we have put together two book boxes, dubbing them Little Wee Libraries – you’ll find them in Mr. Kevin Lakes’ classroom and in our Success Centre. More are in the works, to be completed as time and opportunity allow.
Many thanks to all who have played a role in launching our Little Wee Libraries project, especially Brandon Jodrey for his carpentry wizardry, Bailey Hamilton for her assistance in painting, and teachers and staff for their enthusiastic support and who so faithfully sow the seeds of learning every day.
