Dear KES Family:
Each week has its gems. It was exciting seeing everyone – day and boarding students – back on campus. The fresh energy and happy faces filled the School, and the daily routine of classes and sport quickly got underway. Hurrah!
This week we received special permission to do asymptomatic testing of all our students and staff. I am not aware of any other school in Canada with the permission or expertise to do this. We thought it would be reassuring for everyone to know that our happy bubble here in Windsor was as healthy as it seems. A little discomfort…a lot of reassurance!
What is also unique is that Greg Otto (Class of 2022) has been trained by Dr. Lisa Barrett, one of Atlantic Canada’s foremost authorities on infectious diseases, to do the testing. As a result, Greg was able to help our own medical team. I asked Greg how it felt to swab his friends. He said it went really well, and he was pleased that a lot of students requested that he swab them.
On Tuesday, Mr. Verryn-Stewart told me a great story about what happened to him when he was late for a meal at School. Sitting down in the Dining Hall after everyone had finished and departed, Mr. Verryn-Stewart was alone at his table. Two students, Tammy de la Vega Perdomo (Grade 12) and Nicolas Sanchez Benet (Grade 10), who had finished their meals and about to leave, sat down and joined him. What ensued was a lively conversation that spanned a range of topics from politics to the recent holiday.
Afterwards, Mr. Verryn-Stewart thanked Tammy and Nico for joining him and keeping him company. Tammy responded, “Mr. Stewart, one of the things I love about KES is that no one ever has to eat alone here.”
Sincerely,
Joe Seagram
