It’s an annual tradition at King’s-Edgehill School for our students to participate in a Christmas community service project. This year, we chose to stay local and provide a special Christmas for families in need. We partnered with the Family Resource Centre of West Hants which provides a variety of essential support and resource programmes to participating families, as a means of enhancing positive family values and encouraging participants to reach their full potential. A variety of programmes are offered through the Centre, such as “Playgroup”, “Babylove”, and “West Hants Dial a Ride”.
The Family Resource Centre assigned KES eight deserving families who are all experiencing challenging times and could use some holiday cheer. As soon as the challenge was presented, our flats immediately got to work with purchasing Christmas gifts for their designated families that consist of 5-6 family members each, ranging from babies to grandparents! It was amazing to see the generosity and Christmas spirit of our students, faculty, and parents who all pitched in to help make this holiday season magical for these local families.
On December 8th, our student elves packed up THREE KES vanloads and headed across town to deliver the gifts to the Centre! Upon arrival, the Centre Directors were absolutely overwhelmed and overjoyed to see what our School community had donated. They shared that many of our local community members utilize the Centre’s services regularly throughout the year, and they have experienced a noticeable increase in demand for support this holiday season. The Directors could hardly wait to notify each of the sponsored families, knowing they would breathe a sigh of relief now that their family will experience a joyful Christmas morning!
We look forward to running this programme again next year and want to thank our KES community for helping to spread kindness and cheer this holiday season.
