It is Beginning to Look a lot like Christmas in the Art Department!

The Grade 6 and 7 Art students were introduced to clay earlier this month. Their first lesson was learning about the three hand-building methods of clay, which are pinch, coil and slab. They used the slab method to roll out the clay and then they used cookie cutters and Christmas stamps for the ornaments. The ornaments were then fired in our kiln for 8 hours at the temperature of 1000 C. After the bisque firing, they painted their ornament with glaze (liquid glass) and the ornaments were fired a second time. It is magical, and the results are beautiful, colourful ornaments.

For our Grade 8 and 9 Art students, our last classes before the holidays were spent decorating and eating gingerbread men. Lots of decorations and fun! I hope you enjoy the results of our very productive day.

Merry Christmas!
