The mild weather in Nova Scotia always succeeds at tricking my brain into thinking it is earlier than it really is, but here we are almost in mid-December! When I looked at the calendar today, I had to shake my head and ask myself, “Where has the time gone?”
Next week will wrap up with a KES Spirit Week, and students will be dismissed for the holidays. Although classes will end, the School will remain open for more than 50 international boarders for the two weeks of break. In some ways it is going to be a challenging time for those who are missing their families and their home, but we plan to make the absolute best of this situation and make this a holiday that will be talked about for years to come.
The Residence Life Team has been working together to assure that all individual needs are met and that our students staying on campus for the holidays get what they need out of the break. Students who stay on campus will have a balance of activities to choose from and can also use all campus facilities. There will be daily activities for students to choose from, along with a strong dose of rest and relaxation. There are some short optional excursions planned for students as well as day trips both on and off campus.
Chartwells has planned meals for the holidays, including a tradition Christmas Supper, complete with all the fixings. We are hopeful that Santa will also find his way to campus on Christmas day! We will “ring out the old, and ring in the new” together on New Year’s Eve (can’t wait to turn the page on 2020!).
Although it will be a different way to spend the holidays for all of us, we are truly blessed to have many of our KES students on campus and a strong feeling of family around us. Faculty, friends, and families who have opened their homes and hearts this holiday season and invited KES students for a meal, a visit, or an extended stay, thank you. There will be no shortage of love to go around. For those who are travelling abroad over the holidays, we will be here to greet you and get you back to KES safely and in good health.
