KES Debaters are up for the Challenge!

Our Debaters are up for the Challenge!

zoom_news1379245_1379738A heartfelt congratulations to Thane Morgan (Grade 11), William Ahern (Grade 11) and Danica Scully (Grade 9) who represented King's Edgehill in last weekend's Dalhousie Invitational British Parliamentary Debate Tournament where they advanced through 6 rounds of very challenging motions!  The tournament was online, and our Senior Boys took on topics such as:
  • This house would enforce filial responsibility laws.
  • This house, as a Latin American star soccer player would stay in their national league over playing in Europe.
Our 2 Senior debaters, also KES soccer players, did very well in that round.  And finally, as news was breaking around the world at the same time: Assuming success in the US Presidential election, this house as Biden would not prosecute Trump for his crimes in office.

Advancing to the final round, our KES Seniors finished 3rd out of 12 participating teams; and individually, William placed 4th and Thane tied for 6th out of the 24 participating competitors from across the province.

Danica, representing in the Junior Division alongside her former teammate from Armbrae Academy, took on topics such as:
  • This house prefers online to in person schooling.
  • This house would ban essential service workers from striking.
  • This house regrets computational creativity.
Danica and partner, also advanced to the grand finale and finished 2nd as a team, and Danica placed 3rd overall, out a field of 16 debaters from across Nova Scotia (and one team from Alberta).

Congratulations KES debaters - thank you again for representing us so well.
