The mud on their boots probably wasn’t even dried up from their last games of the high school season before seven of our students were lacing them up again to represent Nova Scotia as members of the provincial ‘Keltics’ rugby programme. On the boys’ side, brothers
Evan (U-18) and Jem Logan (U-16) were joined by
Greg Otto (U16) in suiting up for their respective age-grade teams. Not to be outdone, four of our female students traded in their red KES uniforms for blue Keltics uniforms as they represented Nova Scotia.
Megan Mattie and
Maya Faucher both were members of the Under-16 team while
Courtney Ells and
Camryn Kleynhans led the charge for the Under-18 team. These seven student-athletes first competed in the Atlantic Canadian Championships in PEI before heading to Kingston, Ontario to compete at the Eastern Canadian Championships.
In addition to being selected for the Keltics, Camryn and Courtney were both identified as top players in their age group and were invited to attend the U-18 Canada East training camp which took place at Brock University in Ontario. While Courtney was unable to attend, Camryn had the opportunity to compete against the USA East U-18 team which is an accomplishment for which she deserves much credit.
While all of these athletes are eagerly anticipating the start of the rugby season here in the Spring, they are all currently contributing members to a number of our fall sport teams.
